Punctuation and grammar rules terrify me. But recently I’ve been doing a bit of editing and I've realised I'm actually not that bad at editing the grammar and punctuation of other people's work. I realised the difference between what I do for my writing and what I will do for other people's writing simply comes down to attention span. Re-reading some of my work I think, 'wow I had some good ideas but why the hell do I keep writing the wrong 'there/their'!?' I know the difference but when I write my mind runs away at a million miles an hour, it dreams, it philosophises, it, it, it gets lost. And my fingers try and catch up but they sometimes end up writing silly things. So today, on this fine and beautiful day while I am relaxing in Wiltshire, I am going to re-read and edit my work that I never previously looked at.
Cringing will ensue.
